Privacy Policy

Last updated: June 11, 2015

Thank you for using Private Browser (the "App"). The App is owned and licensed to you by Pinch of Awesome, LP, ("we", "us" or "our"). Downloading and installing the App may result in the display of various types of advertising, which is how we are able to make the App available to you for free. As you use the App, we want you to be clear how we're collecting and using your information and the ways in which you can protect your privacy.

This Privacy Policy only applies to information collected through the App and through our custom search bar or search homepage. It does not apply to the information practices of any websites, content, products, or applications provided or marketed by third parties, which may be viewed in or promoted by the App. Specifically, our Privacy Policy explains:

Your privacy matters to us, so if you have any questions please contact us.

When we use the word "collect" throughout this Privacy Policy, we're referring to the App's transmission of information to us or our service providers or its storage of information for later use or transmission. "Collect" doesn't refer to the App's mere processing of information on your mobile device.

2. What Information Do We Collect?

The App operates on your mobile device and partly by connecting to our servers. You are not required to provide any personally identifiable information (such as your name, phone number, or email address) to us in order to use the App. However, the Android store may require certain personally identifiable information from you in order for you to set up an account and download the App, which information is not provided to us and not covered by this Privacy Policy. Certain information that you generate in connection with the App may be collected and stored by the App (including browsing history, bookmarks, logout information, and your PIN). That information will only be available within the App and only if you have logged into the App with your PIN. If you choose to delete the information that you generate in connection with the App, it will no longer be available to you and will not be stored. In addition, we may store cookies during a browsing session while in the App. However, the cookies will be automatically deleted when you log out or exit the App.

In the event that you use our custom search bar or search homepage that is available within the App, the search terms and results that you receive from that search will be accessible to us when the App communicates with our server and will be stored on our servers.

3. Cookies and Automatic Information Gathering Technologies

As stated above, the App supports cookies set by websites you visit while browsing the Internet using the App, which may be used by those websites to track and collection information. While we may store cookies during a browsing session, the cookies will be automatically deleted when you log out or exit the App.

When we use the term "cookies" in this Privacy Policy, we're referring to the traditional web browser cookie and to newer methods of tracking information on users' mobile devices, such as HTML5 session storage or statistical identifiers. However, as stated above, these tracking and collection methods are utilized by third party websites and are governed by those third parties' own privacy and security policies, which are different from ours. The App utilizes a device generated identifier to collect web log information including your IP address, search queries entered in our custom search bar of homepage, and user agent information, as well as other technical and generic information such as (but not limited to) when you installed the App, when you used the App, and the number of daily active users of the App. We do not use cookies or other automatic information gathering technologies to collect or store personal information.

4. Personal Information

We do NOT knowingly collect any personal information through the App. However, it is possible that, in very limited and rare circumstances, personal information could be collected incidentally and without our knowledge (for example, the App may collect the URLs of the websites you visit and the search terms you enter into our custom search engine homepage, and so if a URL you visit or search term you enter includes the name of an individual, this name would be collected by us).

5. Partnership Supported Features of the App

The App may be supported by our partnerships with search engines, advertisers, and various websites. When you install and use the App you may use our custom search bar or search homepage that directs your search queries to a particular search engine. You may also see various types of ads on our partners' websites as you visit locations on the Internet, or other interactive content displayed through the App.

6. How Do We Use the Information We Collect?

We collect this non-personal information to better understand the user's experience with the App, for statistical analyses, and for product improvement. We may publish this non-personal information in connection with certain reports that we provide in marketing our product and services.

We may also use the data we collect to determine which search engines to direct your queries to through our custom search feature, and to determine compensation under our arrangements with our search provider partners and other companies. We often work with other parties to assist us in delivering content or operating the App, and, in those cases, third parties may use data that we (or they) collect, but only in ways consistent with this Privacy Policy.

As previously discussed, we may also use device generated identifiers, in order for us, our service providers, or a third-party partner to collect non-personal information. We will not use this information to personally identify you, and will not try to discover your name or other personally identifying information about you using the data. We may use this information to help us get a better understanding of our overall user base and for other internal purposes, such as to help us diagnose problems, to perform research, reporting and analysis aimed at improving our App and other technologies, to manage our systems, and to evaluate the performance of our relationships with other companies.

You should be aware that when you click on links such as search results displayed through the App or submit information to a third-party website, advertiser, or marketer, that third party may also collect your information for their purposes, and that collection is governed by their own privacy and data policies.

7. Disclosure of Your Information

We disclose information we collect about you to third parties (including without limitation our corporate affiliates, search providers, distributors, and other partners) as reasonably necessary to provide the App's features, to track the performance of our relationships with these third parties, and to determine compensation and manage our respective business relationships. We may also share web log information with our search provider partners and other partners so that they can deliver relevant results in response to your search queries. Finally, we disclose information to service providers engaged to perform other functions on our behalf (such as providing data storage, hosting, ad serving, content distribution, marketing of our App and other products, auditing, and web analytics). Since we do not knowingly collect personal information, we do not share it with third parties for their own direct marketing or any other purposes.

We may also disclose your information, anonymously aggregated with information about other users of our products and services, to our clients, business partners, merchants, advertisers, investors, potential buyers and other third parties if we deem such disclosure, in our sole discretion, to have sound business reasons or justifications. For example, when a third party recommends our App through its website, we may share with the third party the total number of installations of the App our systems have recorded attributable to users who visited that website.

Finally, we may disclose your information to third parties when we believe, in good faith and in our sole discretion, that such disclosure is reasonably necessary to (a) enforce or apply the end-user license or other terms and conditions for the App, including investigation of any potential violations, (b) comply with legal or regulatory requirements or a governmental request, (c) protect the rights, property or safety of us, our users or other third parties, (d) prevent a crime or protect national security, or (e) detect, prevent or otherwise address fraud, security or technical issues.

Finally, if we are involved in a merger, acquisition or asset sale, or in the unlikely event of a bankruptcy, liquidation or receivership of our business, we will provide affected users notice through the website or the App at least thirty (30) days before your information becomes subject to a different privacy policy.

8. Accessing Your Information; Transparency and Choice

People have different privacy concerns. Our goal is to be clear about what information we collect so that you can make meaningful choices about how it is used.

As mentioned above, we do not knowingly collect personal information. Since we do not collect personally identifying information (such as your full name, email address, mailing address, telephone number, or credit card number) ("PII") we do not maintain a process for an individual to review and/or request changes to his or her PII. However, if you believe that we have inadvertently collected any personal information about you, please contact us and we will try to locate and delete this information. We may ask you to identify yourself and the information requested to be accessed or deleted before processing such requests, and we may decline to process requests that are unreasonably repetitive or systematic, require disproportionate technical effort, jeopardize the privacy of others, or would be extremely impractical (for instance, requests concerning information residing on backups), or for which access is not otherwise required. In any case, where we provide information access and deletion, we will perform this service free of charge, except if doing so would require a disproportionate effort.

You can stop all data collection and other features of the App if you uninstall it by following the instructions:

Tapping on the Menu button (either a hard or soft button);

Tapping on Settings: Apps: Manage applications;

Tapping on the name of the App; and

Tapping on uninstall.

9. Third Party Links, Sites and Applications

Please note that the App allows you to browser the Internet and may provide links to third party sites or content, such as when you click on search results provided by our search provider partner. For example, when you browse the Internet through the App, you will be taken to webpages and view content that is not owned or controlled by us. We are not responsible or liable for the privacy policies, practices or the content of websites, webpages, or applications owned by others, and their collection of information from you is not governed by this Privacy Policy. Accordingly, we encourage you to review the privacy policies and terms of service of those sites and applications when you visit them and before installing any applications so that you understand how they collect, use and share your information.

10. International Users

By installing and using the App and providing us with your information, you acknowledge and agree that due to the international dimension of the App we may use the data collected in the course of our relationship for the purposes identified in this Privacy Policy, including the transmission of information outside your resident jurisdiction. In addition, please understand that such information may be stored on servers located in the United States. The data protection and privacy laws of the United States and other countries might not be as comprehensive as those in your country. By installing and using the App, you consent to the transfer of your information to the United States, and you further agree that all transactions relating to the App or our website shall be deemed to have occurred in the United States.

11. Children

The App is not intended for users under 18 years of age. If we learn that we have inadvertently collected personal information from a child under the age of 18, we will delete that data from our systems.

12. Information Security

We utilize reasonable information security measures to safeguard your Information. For example, we utilize Secure Socket Layer (SSL) encryption technology when data is transmitted over the Internet, and have installed firewalls to help prevent external access into our network. Unfortunately, however, no data transmission over the Internet and no method of data storage can be guaranteed to be 100% secure. Therefore, while we strive to use commercially acceptable means to protect your information, we cannot guarantee its security.

13. Changes to this Policy

Our Privacy Policy may change from time to time. We will not materially reduce your rights under this Privacy Policy without notice to you. We will post any privacy policy changes on or notify you about them through the App and, if the changes are significant, we will provide a prominent notice (such as an alert through the App). You can always check the "Last Updated" date at the top of our Privacy Policy to see when it was last changed, and we encourage you to check it at time to time.
